Dear Hopkins Elementary Community,
It’s hard to believe that April is already here! With green grass popping up, and trees and flowers starting to bloom, it’s clear that spring is in the air (I’m hoppy about that!).
The next couple of months will be busy here at Hopkins, so please be sure to stay up to date with our monthly newsletters and messages from the office and your teachers. There’s a lot happening as we leap toward the finish line of the school year.
Thank you for your continued partnership as we support our amazing Hopkins Frogs and work together to finish the 2025–26 school year frog-strong! As always, feel free to hop by, give me a call, or send an email anytime.
Just a few reminders from the office. I've recently received some feedback from neighbors about arrival and dismissal traffic blocking driveways. Please do not park in front of driveways; we love our neighbors and want to make sure that they can access their homes all day long.
With spring-like weather, we know many of you will be riding bikes and scooters to school. Please ensure that your child(ren) wear helmets- I want to protect their brains!
I was recently reminded of Colorado laws regarding passenger safety. Please see this link for additional information regarding the requirement for car seats, booster seats, and when children can sit in the front seat.
Dogs are the best (my opinion), and I know that they, too, enjoy spring walks. Please note that due to allergies and student safety, dogs are not permitted on school property.
Here’s to a toadly awesome spring!
Heidi Wagner, Principal

Student Class Placement for the 2025-26 School Year |
2026-27 Planning-New this year, we are asking all families to complete the Intent to Renew Form. This form lets us know whether your child(ren) will be returning next year and helps us ensure proper staffing, classroom placement, and resource planning. Please complete and submit the form by 4/10/26.
During the last week in April, our classroom teachers and specialists will work collaboratively to develop balanced class lists for the coming school year. When building class lists, we take many factors into consideration, including student learning styles, classroom environment, social-emotional considerations, ability levels, states of developmental readiness, social interactions, gender distribution, and participation in special programming. As Elementary Principals, we have noticed that sharing information about classroom placement at the end of the year is a dated process. While we know it is exciting to learn who next year’s teacher will be, we also know that there are many changes that happen over the course of the summer, resulting in the need for shifts in placement. Again this year at Hopkins, families will be able to view their classroom teacher beginning on August 1, 2025, through the Infinite Campus portal. A message will be sent with directions in late July.

Colorado Measures of Academic Success (CMAS) |
3rd, 4th, and 5th grade parents. As you know, students in grades 3-5 will begin CMAS testing next week. Please ensure that your child is on time to school each day and encourage him/ her to get a good night’s sleep each night and eat a healthy breakfast each morning! Please share this letter with your child(ren) and review our testing schedule here. Additional information can be found on the Colorado Department of Education website
As we prepare for testing, we are reminding all families and students of a very important policy. Personal technology devices (phones and wearable technology, including smart watches) are not allowed in the testing rooms. We strongly encourage kids to leave these items at home for the next few weeks until testing is complete. If a student brings a device (phone, tablet, smart watch) to school, he/ she will be asked to place the item in their backpack for the day. We will not be liable for any lost or stolen items. Thank you for your help in ensuring that we do not have any test invalidations during the testing period! We appreciate you!

Counseling Connection From Mr. De Boer
|
During the month of April, Hopkins will focus on the theme of responsibility – helping students learn how their choices and actions affect themselves and others. Parents and guardians can support this by encouraging their students to show responsibility through simple tasks, following routines, and reflecting on how they can make positive choices each day. Academic responsibility is another important focus, including coming to school prepared, completing school work, and asking for help when something is challenging.
Families are encouraged to join in the PLASTIC FILM RECYCLING DRIVE as a way to practice environmental responsibility. Hopkins Student Leadership includes 4th and 5th-grade students, about a third of whom are on the Green Team that focuses on caring for the environment. Here is the information you need to know to participate in this student-led initiative to reduce plastic film that is often thrown into landfills.
LEARN about what PLASTIC FILM is and how it will be recycled through Ridwell.
COLLECT dry and clean plastic film at your home.
BRING your Plastic Film to the main entrance or lower loop entrance at Hopkins for the Green Team to collect on the following dates later this month:
Wednesday, April 22 (Earth Day!) - between 8:35 and 8:50 am or 2:45 and 2:55 pm.
Thursday, April 23 - between 7:35 and 7:50 am or 2:45 and 2:55 pm.
Friday, April 24 - between 7:35 and 7:50 am or 2:45 and 2:55 pm.
If you have any questions about supporting your student with responsibility or want to learn more about the plastic film recycling drive, please email me at kdeboer@lps.k12.co.us. By working together, we can help our students build lifelong responsibility skills that support their learning and character growth!
