Hopkins March Newsletter

Principal's Message

Welcome to March, Hopkins families!

I can’t believe how fast this year is toad-ally flying by. It feels like just yesterday we were starting, and now we’re already leaping into spring!

A huge "thank you" to everyone who joined us for our last Mark Hopkins Accountability Meeting (MHAC). We spent some time looking at our mid-year learning data, and the progress is un-frog-ettable!

We’d love to see even more of you at our final meeting of the year:

- When: Tuesday, March 10th

- Time: 5:00 PM – 6:00 PM

- Topic: We’ll be reviewing our Student Culture and Climate data, and I'll be sharing some exciting staffing updates for next year. Don't miss out—it’s going to be ribbit-ing!

Whether I’m visiting classrooms, catching up in the cafeteria, or watching the action on the playground, I am constantly blown away by our students. Their academic and social-emotional growth is truly leap-years ahead of where we started. Thank you for sharing your amazing children with us!

A special shout-out to our Spelling Bee participants! Standing up in front of a crowd to spell complex words takes some serious courage (and maybe a little bit of "hop-timism"). We are so proud of you!

Believe it or not, we are already planning for next year! Regarding class placements:

Our teachers and specialists work hard to ensure every student lands in the perfect "pond." Because they spend so much time balancing student needs, we do not accept specific teacher requests.

However, if there’s specific information about your child’s learning style you’d like us to know, please feel free to email their teacher or the front office.

Our 3rd–5th grade students will soon be showing off what they know during CMAS assessments. Don’t worry—we’ll send out more details to intermediate families in the coming weeks. We know our frogs are going to do a flap-tastic job!

The kids probably get tired of me saying it, but I’ll say it again: Keep reading! Swapping screen time for a good book is the best way to grow.

If you want to mix it up, try an "old-school" board game or card game. It’s a great way to practice:

- Taking turns (no "lily-padding" over others!)

- Making eye contact and asking questions.

- Winning with a smile and losing with grace.

- Math skills—you can’t count your spaces without them!

Our spring calendar is filling up fast with exciting events. I am so lucky to be a Frog and spend my days with this wonderful community.

Mrs. Wagner

Counseling Connection From Carrie

After spending a couple of months here at Hopkins as a school counseling intern working with Mr. De Boer, I've seen and experienced what a special place this is. I see countless smiles on students' faces every day, a community of staff and teachers who care deeply about the students, and families who are invested in their children's education and well-being. The PBIS theme for this month is perseverance. Perseverance isn't just for those Olympic athletes we've been watching on TV. Perseverance for a student could be giving their best effort when a task is hard. It could be regulating emotions instead of acting on strong feelings. It could be putting in the work to repair a friendship that is struggling. There are opportunities around us to persevere every day!

For Parents and Guardians: I don't know about you, but I find that it's easy to get caught up in our daily routine at home and miss opportunities to speak a word of encouragement to my kids or point out a strength I see in them. Positive affirmations are powerful as our kids navigate the challenges of life and learn to persevere through them. Would you join me in focusing on uplifting the little ones in our lives this month?

Hopkins Student Leadership's Green Team Plastic Film Drive

Join the Hopkins Student Leadership “Green Team” in helping collect plastic film that can be recycled through Ridwell. Rather than throw away those clean bread bags or paper towel plastic wrapping, collect them at home and then bring them to Hopkins in late April on a collection day (a specific date is still being finalized; more info to come). Thanks to all who participated in this plastic film drive last April at Hopkins! Let's see if we can recycle even more plastic film this year!

Supporting Active and Engaged Learning at Hopkins Elementary

Hopkins Elementary is creating more engaging learning spaces with help from the Littleton Public Schools Foundation. For the 2025–2026 school year, Hopkins received two Educator Grants totaling $1,818, focused on movement, safety, and student engagement.

The funded projects and educators include:

● Permanent Placement: Non-Slip Music Sit Spots – Hannah Baty

● Move To Learn! – Kasey Harmon

These grants will help students stay active, focused, and ready to learn throughout the school day. Thank you to the educators behind these thoughtful projects and to the donors who make them possible. Learn more about how the Littleton Public Schools Foundation supports educators here.

Quest For School Breakfast

Busy weekday mornings make it a challenge for many families to find time for a healthy breakfast. Fortunately, Littleton Public Schools offers nutritious school breakfasts, complete with fruit and low-fat or fat-free milk, to ensure students are fueled for learning every school day, and the best part is that all students receive a free breakfast as part of Healthy School Meals for All!

The 2026 NSBW campaign theme, “The Quest For School Breakfast,” reminds the entire school community that school breakfast provides a healthy and energizing start to the day for students. Studies show that students who eat school breakfast are more likely to:

● Reach higher levels of achievement in reading and math

● Score higher on standardized tests

● Have better concentration and memory

● Be more alert

● Maintain a healthy weight

We will be celebrating with "Quest for the Hidden Veggie" on Tuesday, March 3rd, inviting students to guess the veggie that makes up our newest muffin, baked fresh from our new Central Production Kitchen!

We hope you will join us for breakfast!
